The Composer
Kye Marshall has written a full length opera, music for full orchestra, string orchestra and for different combinations of instruments including string quartet, piano, brass quintet and choir.
She has also written four film scores, forty jazz compositions, as well as music for theatre, dance and CBC radio drama . Her classical compositions have been performed in Italy, the US, Austria and locally at venues such as the Glenn Gould Studios, Harbourfront, Royal Conservatory of Music, NY Centre for the Performing Arts, Music Gallery, Markham Centre for the Performing Arts, TVO and CBC Radio.
Her jazz compositions have been played on local radio stations and around the world in many countries including France, Belarus, Poland, England, Australia.
The Jazz Cellist
The Kye Marshall Jazz Quartet / Duo has appeared on TVO, in the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, the Distillery Jazz Festival, the Jazz and Blues Festival, the Mayworks Festival, and at numerous venues around Toronto including the Montreal Bistro, the Pilot, the Four Seasons Performing Arts Centre, Quigley’s, Mezzeta’s, Le Select, Gate 403, Oscars, Oasis, Free Times Café, the Universities of Guelph, Toronto, and Waterloo among others.
She has produced four jazz CD’s: Standard Time, a compilation of jazz standards with Don Thompson (bass and piano) and Dan Ionescu (guitar); Say When and Winter’s End, original jazz compositions with Don Thompson (piano). Pencil Blues.
The Free Improviser
Marshall has performed with many avant garde ensembles in the Victoriaville Toronto Festival, Music Gallery, Fringe Jazz Festival, Distillery Jazz Festival, Artword Theatre, the Rex, Gallery 345, Array Studios, the Cameron, the Idler Pub, etc. She has also been performing ‘spontaneous compositions’ in the Baker/Marshall Duo for many years with Thomas Baker (piano), creating 'in the moment' music through improvisation. They have produced two CDs: In The Moment and Chiaroscuro.
The Classical Cellist
Kye is former principal cellist with the New Chamber Orchestra and O'Keefe Centre Orchestra and was assistant principal with the National Ballet Orchestra. She also performed with the Hamilton Philharmonic, the Stratford Festival Orchestra and in many theatres and recording studios around Toronto. She currently plays with the Epic String Quartet. More
